Whether you’re looking to encourage your officials to provide more cycling lanes or add swings to a park, Civiciti offers citizens and organizations a range of options for promoting a cause or raising awareness on a local issue. To enact local change, it’s imperative to send the right message to the community, garner their support and get them to encourage your local officials to consider the cause or issue.

 

With Civiciti you can do this by posting an issue; sharing a news story; promoting an event; creating a petition; publishing a poll; and starting a crowdfunding campaign.

 

  1. Raise a local issue

 

With Civiciti you can publish a “card” calling attention to a particular issue, an add supporting text, pictures and videos. You can even append a poll to make your issue stands out. In order to do this:

 

  1. Click on “Issue” from the menu at the top of the Publisher
  2. Write your issue title in the title bar
  3. Write the description of your issue in the description box
  4. Choose the topic of your issue from the topic drop-down list
  5. Choose the location, see “Set your location” for more
  6. Add any accompanying photo, video or poll from the options directly underneath the title bar
  7. Click “Post” at the bottom of the page to publish your new Card

 

  1. Share a local new story

 

Found a good article in a local newspaper that supports your cause or issue? Publish a link to it on Civiciti. To do this simply:

 

  1. Click on “Link” from the menu at the top of the publisher page
  2. Paste your link into the box underneath the menu at the top of the page
  3. Underneath your link, add any comments before publishing your link
  4. Choose the topic of your issue from the topic drop-down list
  5. Choose the location, see “Set your location” for more
  6. Click “Post” at the bottom of the page to publish your new Card

 

  1. Promote an event

 

Digital channels are great for raising awareness and reaching people, but offline events are also an effective to mobilize supporters for a particular cause. On Civiciti, to create or promote an event simply:

 

  1. Click on “Event” from the menu at the top of the publisher page
  2. Choose the start date and time and end date and time of your event
  3. Write your event title in the title bar
  4. Write the description of your event in the description box
  5. Choose the topic of your event from the topic drop-down list
  6. Choose the location, see “Set your location” for more
  7. Add any accompanying photo, video or poll from the options directly underneath the title bar
  8. Click “Post” at the bottom of the page to publish your new Card

 

  1. Create a petition

 

Petitions can be a fantastic way to influence officials to address a given issue as they help quantify the number of people who support your cause. On Civiciti, to create a petition simply:

 

  1. Click on “Petition” from the menu at the top of the publisher page
  2. Write the name of the person, group, body or organization to whom your petition will be delivered
  3. Enter your home address in the second text bar
  4. Write the title of your petition in the third text bar
  5. Write the description of your petition in the description box
  6. Choose the topic of your petition from the topic drop-down list
  7. Choose the location
  8. Add any accompanying photo, video or poll from the options directly underneath the title bar 9. Click “Post” at the bottom of the page to publish your new Card

 

  1. Publish a poll

 

Publishing a poll can also be a great way to create data points supporting your cause or issue. To create a poll on Civiciti you’ll need to:

 

  1. Click on “Poll” from the menu at the top of the publisher page
  2. Write your poll question in the first text bar underneath the menu at the top of the page
  3. In the second text bar write the description of your poll if applicable
  4. Write the answer options for your poll in the following spaces
  5. To add any more answers than the initial two options, click on “One more option”
  6. Choose the topic of your poll from the topic drop-down list
  7. Choose the location
  8. Add any accompanying photo or video from the options directly underneath the title bar
  9. Click “Post” at the bottom of the page to publish your new Card

 

  1. Start a crowdfunding campaign

 

Ideas are great but if there’s no financing for it can be hard to go from “ideation” to “execution”. With Civiciti you can start a crowdfunding campaign to improve your local community. To do this:

 

  1. Click on “Crowdfunding” from the menu at the top of the publisher page
  2. Input the monetary goal of the item in the first text bar below the menu at the top of the page 3. Write your crowdfunding title in the title bar
  3. Write the description of your crowdfunding item in the description box
  4. Choose the topic of your crowdfunding item from the topic drop-down list
  5. Choose the location, see “Set your location” for more
  6. Add any accompanying photo, video or poll from the options directly underneath the title bar 8. Click “Post” at the bottom of the page to publish your new Card

 

  1. Share your Civiciti campaigns on social media

 

You’ve posted your issues, published a poll or created a petition on Civiciti. The last step is to get your community to support your cause by publishing it on social media such as Facebook or Twitter. To do this:

  1. Click on “My Profile” to see the cards you’ve published
  2. Select which card type you wish to promote.
  3. Click on the “share” buttons (eg. Facebook or Twitter)
  4. Personalize your message, being sure to mention your city
  5. Insert a relative hashtag or call out social influencers in your community
  6. Make sure the link to Civiciti is included in your message
  7. Click “Tweet” or “Share” and broadcast your issue to your community
